If you need to install a submersible well pump on your Bergen County property, you may not be sure what type is best for you and your family. There are two basic types of submersible pumps, and each comes with several available options. At Ackerson Pump Company, we understand that each family has different needs in regard to their water supply. Whether consistent water flow is important or accessible electrical components are a must, there is a range of options to choose from to ensure you have the right pump for your home.
Traditional Well Pumps
Traditional submersible well pumps operate at only one speed. They are automatically activated when the water pressure in the tank drops to a specified minimum psi (pounds per square inch). Conversely, they shut off when the tank pressure rises to a particular maximum psi. Water pressure in a home with this type of well can fluctuate slightly as it’s being used throughout the day. It’s a great option if you want a simple pump and you don’t mind if the water flow is a bit irregular.
Variable Speed Well Pumps
Also known as constant pressure pumps, variable speed pumps run at different speeds rather than only one. You can adjust it by using the electronic controller that’s located inside the pressure tank. The pump is activated when the pressure drops as little as 2 psi. This pump is also great for keeping the water pressure consistent.
Two-Wire Pumps
A two-wire submersible pump has all of its components inside the fully submerged pump. This setup can make them more difficult to fix, but two-wire pumps need fewer repairs because of their simple, basic design.
Three-Wire Pumps
In contrast to two-wire pumps, the electrical components of three-wire pumps are located in a control box that’s installed above the ground. This makes it nice and easy to access if the three-wire pump needs to be repaired.
